Value Guard: For those customers who are purchasing a late model used car or are on a tight budget, GM Protection Plan Custom offers a good alternative. Value Guard coverage is designed to provide protection for a wide array of components in eight major groups: Gasoline Engine, Transmission/Transaxle, Front/Rear-Wheel Drive, Steering, Front Suspension, Brakes, Electrical, and Vehicle Manufacturer-Installed Air Conditioner. The same great rental coverage as Major Guard is also included. Finally, Value Guard provides a $50 authorization or reimbursement for towing as a result of a covered failure.

Basic Guard: For those customers who are interested in covering only the components associated with the engine and transmission, the GM Protection Plan offers Basic Guard. This lower-priced alternative is targeted to older model used vehicles and provides coverage for components in the following three categories: Gasoline Engine, Transmission/Transaxle, and Front/Rear Wheel Drive. It also has the same towing provision as Value Guard.
